NIGEL Farage is said to be in crisis talks with ITV bosses after agreeing to go on I’m a Celebrity without realising he has issues with a major rule.
The Sun previously revealed that the controversial politician was considering braving the jungle, and eventually signed up for the show in a deal reportedly worth up to £1million.
Now it seems the former Brexit Party chief has gotten cold feet after learning that cigarettes are not allowed on the reality programme.
According to the Daily Mail, producers are discussing waiving the smoking ban for Farage.
Political journo Ava Evans spilled the beans on the former UKIP leader’s hesitations while on the Paper Cuts podcast.
She revealed: “Would you like some insider knowledge of why Nigel Farage was considering not doing it? It is the smoking ban. You can’t smoke and he is a very heavy smoker.”
Host Miranda Sawyer wondered if the producers might allow him to smoke at the back.
Ava responded: “I think that’s being negotiated. That was a discussion that Chris Moyles also had last year because he is also a very heavy smoker.”
ITV previously denied that celebs were not allowed to smoke on the reality show, telling the Sun: “Celebrities who smoke are allowed to smoke in camp. They have to smoke near the campfire and then put stubs out in the fire.”
However, it seems there is some confusion about the rules, as stars are not allowed to to pack cigarettes when they head to the camp.
The tobacco sticks are one of the many forbidden items that cannot be brought into I’m A Celebrity, including clocks, snacks, books, and cosmetics.
When Farage agreed to join the cast of the famous show, a TV insider told the Sun: “Nigel has been at the top of the wish-list for I’m A Celeb bosses for years.
“They’ve offered him a huge fee as they know he’ll drive up viewing figures. Ant and Dec will love this signing.
“Nigel’s the ultimate Marmite character and won’t hold back in camp discussions.
“It’s a real coup. The casting team has nailed it. It’s shaping up to be a brilliant series.”
